Chemical Hazards Response Information System (CHRIS)

Using the CHRIS Manual:

1.  You may query the database using up to 9 different search criteria.

2.  From the Query screen:

  • CHRIS Code: enter the entire CHRIS code or any portion of the code.

  • Chemical Name: enter the whole chemical name or any portion of the name.

  • Color: select the color that most closely matches the color of the chemical from the drop-down list.

  • Odor:

    a.  Strength: select the odor strength from the drop-down list.

    b.  Likeness:   select the odor likeness that most closely matches the odor of the chemical from the drop-down list.

  • Physical State Shipped:   select a description of the way the chemical was physically shipped from the drop-down list.

  • Characteristics in Water:   select a description of the way the chemical reacts in water from the drop-down list.

  • IMO-UN Number:  enter the entire IMO-UN number or any protion of the number.

  • DOT ID Number:  enter the entire DOT ID number or any protion of the number.

3.  You may also search the database using a synonym for an existing chemical.  From the Query screen:

  • Click on the Click to search by synonym link.

  • Synonym:  enter all or part of a synonym for the chemical you are searching for.

4.  Once results are displayed, you can:

  • Print:  at any time you can print using the Print button or the File menu, Print option in the browser.

  • View Synonyms:  click on the View Synonyms link.  Click on the Back button in the browser to go back to the previous screen.

  • View Chemical Sheet:  click on the chemical code.  Adobe Acrobat Reader will launch and display the chemical sheet in your browser.  Click on the Back button in the browser to go back to the previous screen.
